If you have a certain Guns’ N Roses song stuck in your head on Monday, we can’t blame you. Talk about November rain.

The rain started early Sunday in Winnipeg, eased for a few hours, then returned and intensified last night during the Monday morning commute. Now that it is gone, the day ahead will be cloudy but dry.

The cause was a pressure trough over southern Manitoba. It will head northeast throughout the day toward Hudson Bay. So any rain in southern Manitoba will stop this afternoon.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says total precipitation accumulations will be in the range of 20 to 35 mm in many southern areas, with most falling last night.

Next, northeast communities including Island Lake and Shamattawa could see up to 5 to 10 mm of showers this afternoon. As temperatures drop tonight, snow showers are likely in Churchill ahead of snow and blowing snow tomorrow.

No need for an umbrella in southwest Manitoba. The region will benefit from sunshine this afternoon and daytime temperatures slightly above normal.

However, there is also a cold front in the situation today. In Winnipeg and the Red River Valley, temperatures will drop this afternoon with northwest winds to around 3°C. That said, this is the normal daytime maximum for early November.

The sky will largely clear up this evening in the south. Overnight lows will fall below freezing.

Sunshine, mild temperatures and light winds return Tuesday.
