Several moose visited a Frisco home on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3, attracted by the pumpkins on the porch.

Now that Halloween is over and the snow is falling, it is important to dispose of jack-o’-lanterns correctly.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife warns that leaving pumpkins for wildlife can have unintended consequences for humans and animals. Additionally, feeding wildlife is illegal in Colorado.

Pumpkins can attract bears, as well as deer and elk, which in turn can attract mountain lions or other predators to your home.

However, sending the pumpkins to a landfill isn’t the best option either. As they decompose, they produce methane, a greenhouse gas more potent than carbon dioxide.

The ideal solution is to send your pumpkin to one of the many composting options in Summit County.
