The reign of the scavengersone of the best sci-fi series in a long time, apparently doesn’t have a season 2 currently, and I’m not happy about it.

Last year, HBO released a very special little sci-fi animated series called Scavengers Reign. It was strange, captivating, and one of the best adult-oriented animated shows I’d seen in a long time. Last year I even wrote about how adult animation has a bright futureas far as those responsible allow it, but a switch to Netflix brought uncertainty for the show. Things are unfortunately a little less certain now, as co-creator Joe Bennett shared the news on his personal Instagram that “at this time, Scavengers Reign is not renewed for a second season.”

Bennett continued to explain, “I wanted everyone to know straight up because I really love our fans, they’ve been such champions for the show, and I don’t want to leave everyone hanging. We have had to fight us tooth and nail every step of the way in making this series, from 2016 with the short film Scavengers until the release of the first season last year.

The Instagram post, which you can check out above, comes with a small teaser showing what a hypothetical season 2 could look like, which Bennett says was produced in-house at Green Street Pictures. “This is not the end. There is still more story to tell, we are ready to do another season and we produced a teaser internally at Green Street for what was to come in the second season. Thank you again to everyone who watched and supported the show.

Personally, I’m incredibly gutted by this news and I really hope that someone, somewhere decides to give it at least one more season, because there just hasn’t been a piece of sci-fi like this one for quite a while.
