OGDEN — Lyndon Johnson has resigned as Ben Lomond head football coach after going 0-10 in his sixth season with the team. The Ogden School District made the position available to the public Monday morning through its official website following Johnson’s resignation.

Johnson told the Standard-Examiner he plans to continue teaching at Ben Lomond and create a youth sports program focused on the district’s junior high athletes.

A series of problems marred the Scots’ winless end to the season, ending with a 56-8 loss at Ogden during the annual Iron Horse game. Johnson informed his team that he would resign after the loss to Ogden.

“It was a very difficult season,” Johnson said. “This has probably been, in the 30 years that I’ve coached, the hardest, not only because of the wins and losses, (but) just because of a lot of things that we face on and off the ground.”

Johnson’s tenure at BL ends at 14-51 per year separated from the program’s first winning season since 2000.

An Ogden native, Johnson previously spent 15 years as the head basketball coach at Roy, Brighton and Northridge high schools before following in his father Ralph’s footsteps in 2019 to lead the football program at Ben Lomond .
