Clemson football Coach Dabo Swinney took time out of his preparations before Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech to fulfill his civic duty when he encountered a small problem.

He had apparently already voted for 2024 presidential election.

The only problem? In fact, that wasn’t the case.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the football coach revealed he plans to start his day with the polls. What he thought would be a quick “10 minute” detour, turned out to be a much longer process.

“I tried to go vote. I tried to go do my best and vote this morning. They told me I couldn’t vote. It was quite an experience,” Swinney said with a smile, adding that initially he thought there was something to this question. with Clemson loss to Louisville during the weekend.

“Dang. They kicked me out of state. I lost a game. We’re 6-2 and 5-1 (in conference), man. They kicked me out.”

Swinney went on to explain that he was told he had already voted absentee the week before.

“He said I had already voted. And I told him, ‘No, I can assure you I didn’t vote.'”

“Ultimately, Will – my oldest – voted last week, and somehow they messed it up, didn’t check his birthday or something, and they counted in the vote. So what was going to take 10 minutes took an hour.

Swinney said he instead had to fill out a paper ballot and that a hearing would be held Friday to resolve the issue — a timeline he expressed reservations about.

“It was quite an experience this morning. But apparently they’re going to fix it on Friday, and me and Will – our two votes – will count on Friday. I don’t know if it will matter on Friday. I’m trying to do my best, being a good citizen and voting, and sometimes doing your best is not enough.”
