Latest US elections: state of democracy and economy top voters’ concerns, first exit polls reveal | US News

An exit poll published by our American partner network NBC News shows that voters are most concerned about democracy and the economy.

Major problems

Democracy came in first place, with 35% of voters saying it was the main issue influencing their vote.

The economy follows with 31%.

This is followed by abortion (14%) and immigration (11%), while only 4% cite foreign policy as the most important issue.

Trump supporters against Harris

Supporters of Harris and Trump were sharply divided on the issues of greatest concern.

Half of Harris voters cited the state of democracy as their top priority, followed by abortion (21%) and the economy (13%).

In contrast, a majority of Trump supporters said the economy was their biggest concern, ahead of immigration (20%) and democracy (12%).

Immigration

When it comes to immigration, nearly six in 10 voters supported giving undocumented immigrants the chance to apply for legal status.

But support for deporting undocumented immigrants has increased 15 percentage points to 39% since 2016.

Abortion

Abortion was the most important issue for 19% of women, compared to 8% of men.

A larger share of Trump voters said abortion should be legal (38%) than four years ago (26%).

Satisfaction

When asked what they thought about the way things are going in the country, 29% of voters said they were angry and 43% said they were dissatisfied.

Electoral integrity

When asked how confident they were that the election was conducted fairly and accurately, 31% said they were not confident, while 68% said they were confident .
