Election Day Tips

■ If you are unsure whether you are registered to vote or eligible to vote in a particular election, contact the elections office before Election Day or use the online Voter Status Verification form.

■ Your voter information card has the name and address of your polling location, or you can obtain it by using the online voter status verification form. Make sure you know how to get to your polling place.

■ To be allowed to vote, you must present valid identification, which must contain the voter’s name, photograph and signature and must not be expired. Here is a list of acceptable forms of identification.

■ The identification documents required and verified at the polling station are used only to confirm the identity of the voter, and not to verify their identification number or address. The photograph on the ID is compared to the person standing in front of the poll worker, and the signature on the card is compared to the voter’s signature on the precinct list.

■ If you vote in a school, you should avoid voting at the time of arrival and departure from school.

■ Use the template ballot sent to you by the elections office or available on this website to decide how you want to vote before you go to the polling place. This is particularly useful when there are many elections and constitutional amendments and/or referendums on the ballot (which is typical in November elections in even years). You can bring sample marked ballots to polling places to help you remember how you want to vote; however, you cannot leave them in the voting booths or show them to other voters.

■ When voting at their polling station, voters may wear t-shirts, buttons, hats, etc., that express their political preferences, provided they are not actively campaigning.

■ Please ask poll workers about polling location setup and voting equipment if you have questions they cannot answer.

■ If you need help voting because of blindness, disability, or the inability to read or write, you can ask a person of your choice (or two poll workers) to help you help vote. You cannot ask your employer, an agent or an officer or agent of your union to help you vote.

■ If you vote for no candidates or for more candidates than allowed in a competition, only that competition will be affected; any other competition in which the number of candidates is selected will be considered.

■ If you make a mistake while voting, notify the poll clerk in charge of the polling station, return your spoiled ballot and you will receive a replacement ballot. Your spoiled ballot will be sealed and no one will be able to see it. You cannot receive more than two replacement ballots per election.

■ If you receive an absentee ballot but decide to vote at an early voting site or at your polling place on Election Day, please bring your absentee ballot and give it to an election official. This will help reduce potential wait times and speed up your check-in process.

■ If you suspect you have been a victim of voter fraud, you can report it to the Division of Elections at 877-868-3737.

■ No photography is permitted in the voting room or early voting area except for a voter’s ballot.

SURVEY CLOSES TUESDAY AT 7:00 P.M.
