Destiny 2 8.1.0.4 patch notes fix perk combination weighting

Destiny 2’s latest update fixes the issue where certain perk combinations were almost impossible to acquire.

Destiny 2 update 8.1.0.4 is now available and the patch notes offer a good overview of a number of changes and fixes. Chief among them is a solution to benefit weighting. Players found that it was almost impossible to acquire certain combinations of weapon perks, which proved to be an issue with the game’s core RNG systems. Take a look at all the patch notes day below.

Destiny 2 Update 8.1.0.4

Destiny 2 update 8.1.0.4 patch notes were released on November 5, 2024 via Bungie.net. As mentioned in the article, Bungie will provide an in-depth analysis of the perk-weighting conundrum in an upcoming article. Suffice it to say, this appears to be a major problem, as it is an issue with the game’s fundamental RNG systems.

Activities

Crucible

  • Increased score limits to trigger mercy rules.
  • Previously, the mercy rule only triggered during a small window of the match, so the score limit to trigger it was intentionally low. We have increased the window in which the grace rule can trigger and increased the score limit accordingly to prevent games that still have a chance of being competitive from ending prematurely with a grace.
  • Control, Iron Banner Control, Iron Banner Eruption, Supremacy – 60 to 70.
  • Area Control, Iron Banner Area Control – 50 to 60.
  • Showdown – 40 to 50.
  • Competitive ranking adjustment now places less emphasis on the skill difference between player and lobby.

The Trials of Osiris

  • Fixed an issue where the Shaded Envy shader could not be equipped or displayed in Collections.

Raids and Dungeons

Vesper’s Host

  • Fixed an issue where players could use terrain to skip directly to the first encounter.

Garden of Salvation

  • Fixed an issue where Secret Chests would only drop armor. They can now also drop weapons.

Echoes of the episodes

Exotic Mission: Again

  • Fixed an issue where attempting a particular secret triumph could cause errors in the second half of the mission if achieved without dying.

Violation executable

  • Fixed an issue where launching in the Expert version of the activity caused errors.

Revenant Episode

  • Fixed an issue where the Week 1 Seasonal Challenge “Onslaught Banes” did not correctly specify Onslaught Expert in the description.
  • Fixed an issue where Eido’s Tonic Requests could include unobtainable Tonics.
  • Fixed an issue where players who unlocked the 10% Tonic buff would only apply it to the character who claimed the Act 1 Key Fieldwork item.

Gameplay and investment

Armor

  • Fixed an issue where Mask of Fealty would not consistently create Crystals when defeating Frozen targets with Withering Blade.
  • The distribution of released Withered Blades now has a slightly increased gravity to tighten the distribution and account for this hotfix.

Benefits

  • Fixed an issue where certain random perk combinations were harder to obtain per Legendary weapon perk set.
  • For more details, please see our previous update. We plan to delve deeper into this topic in a future article, stay tuned.
  • Fixed an issue where Foundry weapons provided more benefits in certain columns outside of Master Lost sectors.

The solution to perk weighting is a big deal, so it’s great to see that Bungie will provide a full article dedicated to the problem and solution. It reminds us of the old Heavy ammunition problem from the first game, which tormented players for months. Take a look at our Destiny 2 Strategy Guide for more information about the game.
