State Rep. Kristian Grant to win second term in Grand Rapids seat, AP says

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – State Rep. Kristian Grant, D-Grand Rapids, will win a second term, according to the Associated Press.

The Associated Press called the race for the state’s 82nd District seat at 10:41 p.m. in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

With 73% of the votes counted as of 11:37 p.m., Grant has 23,584 votes to his Republican challenger Ryan Malinoski’s 7,339 votes, a total of 76.3% to 23.7%, according to the Associated Press.

The district includes the southern part of downtown Grand Rapids as well as the southeast side of the city. It also includes part of neighboring Wyoming. Seats in the State House are for two-year terms.

Tuesday’s election was the second matchup between Grant and Malinoski.

In 2022, Grant won the vacant seat after defeating Malinoski handily, winning 74.0% of the vote to Malinoski’s 24.5%.

Grant previously served as a trustee on the Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education.
