2024 Ottawa County Commission Races

(WXMI) — Ottawa County voters have decided who will run the county’s affairs for the next four years.

FOX 17 is highlighting these eleven races because two years ago, the makeup of the board changed dramatically when several candidates backed by the new political group called Ottawa Impact won a majority of seats. The months that followed were marked by dramatic layoffs, budget changes and lawsuits.

Below are the winners of the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners races, according to unofficial results from the county clerk’s office.

In District 1Republican James Barry is expected to fill the seat.

He defeated Democratic candidate Danielle Smith. Current commissioner Gretchen Crosby, supported by the Ottawa Impact, was also running as a write-in candidate after losing in the Republican primary election.

This seat represents areas north of Holland, including Port Sheldon and Olive Townships as well as parts of Park Township.

In District 2Republican Jordan Jorritsma is expected to win the seat.

He defeated incumbent Commissioner Chris Kleinjans.

Kleinjans has only been a board member since May, when he defeated Lucy Ebel in a recall election.
