According to preliminary results, Marshall voters on Tuesday passed Proposition L, which will implement a quarter-cent sales tax on retail sales in the City of Marshall.

The proposal will help secure critical funding to support library renovations, expand programming and improve collections, the library said in a news release.

Marshall residents can expect to see the Marshall Public Library move to a new location at 102 E. Morgan by mid-2026, according to the press release.

Plans for the new library include designated spaces for children’s activities, teen programs, adult resources and “expansion of collections to meet the changing needs of the community.”

Residents can expect to see the start of this process in the coming months, with updates and timelines shared on the library’s public website.

Library Director Matt Rahner expressed his appreciation for the community’s support.

“Passing Proposition L allows Marshall citizens to enrich their lifelong learning in a 21st century library, and the library can provide new resources to our patrons,” Rahner said. “We look forward to strengthening the library’s role as an educational institution and cultural center for all our patrons and library patrons.

Rahner said the library will also continue to improve its general operations that support both in-person and digital services, and implement a variety of new programs such as literacy and educational programs.
