Man dies after falling 8 feet from cell tower in Trinity County

Falling cell phone tower claims man’s life Trinity County yesterday morning, sparking a multi-agency recovery effort.

According to Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace, deputies were called to the tower at 7587 SH 94 around 7:15 a.m. on November 5, 2024, after Mastec Network Solutions reported that one of its employees had not returned home the previous evening. The man’s last job assignment was the cell phone tower.

When officers arrived, they discovered the man’s body approximately eight feet up on a platform suspended from the tower.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the man was climbing the tower and appears to have fallen onto the platform. Firefighters from the Apple Springs Volunteer Fire Department, with assistance from the Groveton Volunteer Fire Department, performed the recovery operations.

The cause and circumstances of the fall are still under investigation and authorities have not released further details at this time.
