Cold front brings weather changes to Arizona today

PHOENIX (AZFamille) — A cold front pushes south through Arizona this morning, bringing light snow showers to some higher elevation communities. No rain is expected in the valley, but expect windy conditions today with northeast winds between 10 and 15 mph.

Stronger winds are likely in the highlands today and tonight, persisting in some areas into Thursday morning. A wind advisory is in effect today for the Lower Colorado River Valley, where gusts could reach 50 mph. Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph could also bring areas of blowing dust.

The storm system bringing cool and windy changes drops light snow in the higher elevations. This afternoon, these snow showers are expected to be limited to eastern Arizona, where lingering showers are also possible through Thursday. Light dusting is expected in most areas, but higher elevations in Apache County could see 3 to 6 inches.

Look for colder temperatures behind today’s cold front. The valley will peak at near 72 degrees today and near 70 degrees tomorrow. Mornings will be colder, with valley lows in the 40s the next few mornings. Some outlying areas could see 30s. A Freeze Warning is in effect this evening east of the Valley in the Globe and Miami area.

The weekend is expected to bring good weather, as well as a warm-up across the state. Valley highs will peak in the mid-70s Saturday and lows in the 80s Sunday and Monday, Veterans Day.
