This year’s offerings include the return of Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot, a beloved Roald Dahl character and an Amazon advert with a gentle soul. Then there’s Waitrose, which keeps us guessing with an Agatha Christie-style two-parter.

Amid the fun and tension, the supermarket is hoping to remind people how Waitrose (Christmas) food is so good, you can’t wait to get your hands on it.

Marks & Spencer Christmas advert

Marks & Spencer has signed up Vicar of Dibley star and all-around national treasure Dawn French to help showcase the best of their Christmas food for the season.

This year’s announcement sees Dawn struggling at home with bags on a snowy winter evening before arriving home and throwing them on the floor, before sulking on her sofa.

“I’m already exhausted, there’s so much to do,” she groaned, taking off her coat and revealing a attractive red tartan pajamas set this further describes his levels of disorganization.

Help is at hand, however, thanks to a French Dawn Christmas fairy lookalike decoration that magically comes to life, terrifying the real Dawn in the process. She conjures up a noisy crowd of neighbors outside Dawn’s house, ready for a festive party, and prepares what is needed with her handy magic wand.

Soon, a tree, decorations and a decadent spread of M&S party food all appear, followed by Dawn who receives a sparkly, seasonal makeover to accommodate her. To the sounds of Step Into Christmas by Elton John, Dawn dances and fully embraces the Christmas spirit.

Asda Christmas advert

Asda has given up on all A-listers this year, with their 2024 ad “Go Big or Go Gnome” instead, they focus on a ceramic crack team to help the supermarket prepare for Christmas.

With a snowstorm brewing, Asda colleagues Maggie and Bill fear the task of making the store festive will be too big for two people. Luckily, Bill has friends who are happy to help him.

He picks up a gnome and presses its nose – sending a signal to gnomes everywhere to gather at Asda. Set to the iconic A team Following the theme, an army of animated gnomes then descends on the store, stocking up on tart supplies and displaying festive glittery Christmas clothing before putting up the Christmas tree.

As the sun rises, Chef Gnome Max declares “It’s time to become a Gnome” with the miniature heroes piling into Asda delivery vans before the store opens. The film then ends with Chris Rea’s Christmas classic, the lyrics of which are adapted from “Driving Gnome for Christmas”.

Sainsbury’s Christmas advert

Sainsbury’s has tapped a familiar and beloved character to talk about its seasonal offerings, in a heartwarming Christmas advert featuring Roald Dahl’s The BFG.

The gentle giant enlists the supermarket’s help for his Christmas dinner this year and meets Sainsbury’s employee Sophie, who knows exactly what he needs.

The two travel together across the UK, collecting cheese, sprouts, salmon and other festive delights supplied by British producers.

With a little magical Phizzwhizzard, the BFG transforms the ingredients gathered on the table into a “delicious” Christmas feast. But the spread is too great for a giant to gorge on.

The commercial ends with surprising a family with the food before taking Sophie back to the store.

Aldi Christmas Ad

Hooray, Kevin the Carrot is back and here to save another Christmas.

This time, the party spirit is stolen by bad, prank treats and it’s up to Kevin – and his partner in crime Katie – to get it back from Prank HQ. Think festive costumes, too-hot-to-handle obstacles, and a trap (we don’t want to spoil it).

Kevin returns victorious (as if anyone had ever doubted him) and the festive spirit is restored, with even the fools learning that “Christmas is better when goodwill is returned.”

Lidl Christmas advert

This supermarket’s 2024 advert aims to spread some “Lidl magic” this Christmas.

A young girl receives a magical set of golden bells after showing kindness to an old lady. But these are no ordinary bells: ring twice and they will make your wishes come true.

After hanging the bells on the family Christmas tree, everyone gathers around the table to enjoy, but they have barely finished setting up their plates when the first trick arrives.

A young boy transforms a massive plate of Brussels sprouts into Bourbons, much to the dismay of his mother, who flips them again. Another child wishes for a raccoon that falls into his lap, and then there’s a giant gingerbread man that magically appears in the yard.

If it’s fun to receive, it’s better to give – as the girl teaches her family members. She picks up a gift from the tree and wants to give it into the hands of a young boy who may need it more than she does.

The advert ends by asking customers to donate a toy to Lidl’s in-store toy banks to help those less fortunate this Christmas. The program returns for another year between November 1 and December 16, with more details available via their website.

Morrisons Christmas advert

Morrisons 2024 advertising is set on a Bugsy Malone musical mash-up of “Bad Guys” and “You Give a Little Love,” performed by those returning oven-gloved chorus puppets.

A Morrisons van arrives with all the Christmas essentials, marking the start of preparations for the feast, from marinating the turkey to roasting the salmon. As the musical number intensifies, we are treated to footage of tables of festive treats, sumptuous starters, meaty main course ideas, tartlets and delicious desserts.

It’s all a bit reminiscent of the “Be Our Guest” scene in the original Disney film. Beauty and the Beast film, ending with a family gathered around the table to figure it all out.

Amazon Christmas Ad

Amazon’s festive campaign is punctuated by a cover of the classic 1965 song “What the World Needs Now Is Love.”

Advertising 2024 is set in an old theater, starring a caretaker who sings softly as he goes about his housekeeping duties. Unbeknownst to him, his colleagues around him have noticed his remarkable voice and come up with a cute plan to surprise him.

One morning, he walks onto a stage with a microphone and a backing track ready to play. All he has to do is put on his new tuxedo jacket (ordered and delivered quickly by Amazon of course) and he will be able to live his artist’s dream for a special moment.

John Lewis Christmas advert

It’s the advert we’ve always been waiting for – and we still have a bit of a wait to go before we see the official John Lewis Christmas 2024 advert.

The department store has so far shared a teaser: the life of a woman told through a pink cashmere sweater given to him by his mother. It introduces this year’s confirmed theme, “Giving Wisely,” but alas, that’s all we’ve gotten so far.

“To offer is to know”, we read the summary. “Knowing the people we love and what they love, even if they don’t know it yet. For over 160 years, we’ve been helping our customers find the perfect gift. This Christmas, let us help you find it find. This Christmas, Give knowingly.

Last year’s ad – the candy story of Snapper, the Venus flytrap plant – dropped on November 9, so hopefully the ad reveal is only a few days away.

Tesco Christmas advert

Tesco customers are still waiting to see what their Christmas 2024 advert has in store for them.

Last year’s advert wasn’t released until November 19, which, if they stick to that schedule, suggests there’s still a week or two before it hits screens.
