Babies who eat sugar could have health problems later, study finds

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – We’re aware of a new study that says children and pregnant women should reduce their sugar intake.

Researchers have found that reducing sugar during pregnancy and up to age two can reduce your child’s risk of chronic diseases as an adult.

Specifically, they found that it reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes by about 35%. It has also been found that it can reduce the risk of high blood pressure by around 20%.

For pregnant women, the study also found that limiting sugar intake and making sure your child does the same early in life can reduce the “lifetime preference” for sweets. This means that your child, overall, may not have as much of a sweet tooth as he or she gets older.

Doctors say that when you eat more sugar, it changes how your metabolism works. Your body begins to deposit it and store it, and that’s when problems and health risks arise.

The study was published in the journal “Science”.

Researchers say in the new study that pregnant and breastfeeding women consume more than triple the recommended amount of added sugar, averaging more than 80 grams per day.

Doctors say parents are the first influence.

It is said that if you want your child to have better habits, then you need to model those habits.
