Call of Duty Mobile celebrates five years and one billion downloads

To summarize: With a new mainline version of the Call of Duty franchise releasing like clockwork every year, it’s easy to forget that there’s also a mobile variant in play. The aptly named Call of Duty Mobile returned in late 2019 as as a free title (with microtransactions) for Android and iOS devices and is off to a good start.

The mobile version of CoD was downloaded 270 million times in its first year and generated nearly $500 million in revenue. As of May 2021, downloads have surpassed 500 million and as of February 2022, the game has collectively earned over 500 million downloads. $1.5 billion.

It’s been five years now and CoD Mobile is still going strong. In an announcement for the game’s 10th season, Activision said that lifetime downloads now stand at over 1 billion.

Like the main entries, CoD Mobile is anchored by its multiplayer mode. It features fan-favorite maps and game modes from previous franchises, and continues to receive a steady dose of themed events to keep players engaged and willing to open their wallets for in-game purchases.

Season 10which launches on November 6 at 5 p.m. Pacific, will include a new battle royale map called Krai, described as a dense cityscape in the foothills of the Ural Mountains. There’s also a new weapon to earn – a USS 9 SMG – as well as five player archetypes, new weapon blueprints and much more.

Playing a first-person shooter on a mobile device isn’t exactly the best way to experience this type of game, but the flaws can easily be ironed out by integrating a wireless game controller and a standalone screen.

If you prefer non-mobile, CoD: Black Ops 6 seems worth a look. The newly created game recently marked the biggest opening weekend in Call of Duty history and is one of 55 games that have been improved for the new PlayStation 5 Pro.
