It’s the same outcome no matter who wins, because that’s what America and democracy are all about. Always looked the same. So what does this mean?

Curtis says the future holds “a definite return to a more restrictive era, which some fear will be draconian.”

“Many fear that their rights will be hindered or denied. Many minority groups and young people will be afraid. It’s so hard to keep fighting. It seems impossible to Finally I feel like our country is moving forward and beyond bigotry and hatred, only to be plunged back into the nightmarish reality that most Americans don’t really care about anything or anyone other than themselves. Curtis acknowledges that it’s difficult and she encourages grace for ourselves.

“Be gentle with people today. Be gentle with yourself today. Feel your feelings today but most importantly… Be American today,” she concluded.

Many people have expressed concern and fear about the future with Trump, who has anti-transgender attacks and an alarmist part of his campaign, back in charge. “I am absolutely and truly terrified, not just for myself, but for those I love. I can’t understand the logic and thought processes that would allow this to happen, and I feel like I’ve lost all faith in the future of this country,” one person commented.

Someone else wrote: “Thanks for this. I needed to read this. Mom of a trans adult and I’m afraid for her but I will never stop fighting to protect her.

“We have just pressed the reset button on the country in the worst way possible. I’m ashamed of people,” someone else said. Another wrote: “This is an absolute nightmare. I’m tired of having to fight for our rights… especially when we already had them and they were taken away from us.”
