Obituary: Gerald N. Liebergen

Gerald N. Liebergen received his largest promotion ever on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

Jerry was born at home in Wayside, WI on September 6, 1937 to Norbert and Adele (Eichhorst) Liebergen. He grew up working on his parents’ farm, graduated from Reedsville, class of 1955, and at age 17 enlisted in the Navy. An injury quickly ended his military service, but he found a successful and rewarding career in the food industry (Surge, Wayne Feeds/Allied Mills/Continental Grain, Hubbard Milling, Golden Sun Feeds, QTI, ATR). Jerry loved his job, enjoyed talking with farmers and food vendors, as well as managing, training and leading his team of vendors. In retirement he drove for Kutz Livery.

On July 5, 1957, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Prochnow, in St. John-St. James Lutheran Church, Reedsville. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage, four children, six grandchildren, 11 great-great-great-great-great-grandfathers. Jerry enjoyed having horses, playing polo, golf, traveling, and playing cards (especially Sheepshead). He was a faithful member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and served in many ways.

Survivors include daughters Lauren (John) Spenner and Lane, and son Lon; sisters Patricia (Marvin) Krahn and JoAnn (Dick) Stelzer; brother-in-law Terry (Karen) Prochnow. Jerry was preceded in death by Marlene, his son Lance, his parents, his parents-in-law Elmer and Gertrude Prochnow, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and two grandsons.

Visitation will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson on Thursday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a service to follow. Entombment will be at 2 p.m., Friday, November 15, at Knollwood in Manitowoc.

Memorials may be made to Bethany or CLCA.

Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
