Manitoba Weather: Snow Coming to the South

It’s finally here.

Light snow falls early Wednesday afternoon in parts of southern Manitoba due to a low pressure system over North Dakota.

Late this morning, fog and mist briefly changed to light snow in Brandon before returning to mist.

Snowflakes also flew until early afternoon in Dauphin before ending there.

As expected, widespread fog covered much of southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg and Brandon, overnight and through much of this morning. Visibility was reduced to almost zero at times. A repeat is not expected this evening with an upper ridge of high pressure leaving our area.

This afternoon, the south should see more of a mix of sun and clouds, with a cloudier trend, at least earlier in the afternoon.

Daytime temperatures will be closer to normal than they have been for some time, with temperatures expected to reach 3 or 4°C.

This won’t last long, however, before temperatures return to well above normal again. From Thursday to Sunday, maximum temperatures forecast for Winnipeg range from 10°C to 12°C.

If you’re heading to Saturday’s Western final game at Princess Auto Stadium to watch the Winnipeg Blue Bombers take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the expected maximum temperature is 12°C.

Kick-off doesn’t take place until 5:30 p.m. after sunset, sure, but we really couldn’t ask for better conditions for the November game.

This afternoon in northern Manitoba there is a risk of flurries, light snow or freezing drizzle in most areas.

The snow stopped and winds eased by midday in Churchill, but temperatures are expected to drop this afternoon to around -12°C.
