Entrepreneur scammed people out of $100,000

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids man is accused of accepting payment for home improvement projects that were never completed, allegedly cheating several homeowners and business owners out of more than $100,000 in total.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said Wesley Pawloski, 30, was charged with a total of four counts of contractor fraud.

Deputies say their investigation began in July 2023. An Ottawa County resident said he paid Blackstone Partners LLC for construction work, but the work was never completed. Then, investigators say, they learned that several subcontractors had provided services to Blackstone Partners but were never paid in full.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators found the owner of Blackstone Partners: Pawloski. The office says three counts of felony contractor fraud were authorized in August 2024.

In September, deputies said they learned Pawloski was still accepting money for projects using a different business name: Designed Construction LLC. Investigators found more people paid Designed Construction for projects that were never completed.

“In total, several home and business owners were defrauded of more than $100,000,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement.

Detectives found Pawloski in Grand Rapids on Oct. 29 and took him into custody, the release said. He was arraigned Oct. 30 on the initial charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

Then deputies say the prosecutor’s office issued an additional charge of contractor fraud, and Pawloski was arraigned Tuesday on that charge.

Bail was set at $50,000 cash/surety. According to the sheriff’s office, Pawloski posted bond and was released from jail.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office detectives say they have worked with other police agencies to identify potential victims in other jurisdictions.
