The registration process aims to ensure elevators and escalators across the state meet safety standards, with mandatory inspections by the state government. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve public safety and operational standards across various sectors.

Director Electrical Safety GK Singh said, “To ensure the safety of elevator users, we have launched the elevator registration portal and associated services such as renewals and uploading proof of registration. annual maintenance. » He added: “We have already received more than 20 online applications. The portal will automatically grant approval once applicants complete all formalities, including payment of fees.

Applicants for elevator registration include UPPCL (Lucknow), OTIS (Lucknow), Vehant Pvt Technology Ltd (Gautam Buddha Nagar) and Vithal Shikhar (Gautam Buddha Nagar), along with the likes of Rajiv Dwivedi (Barabanki), Ashok Kumar (Kanpur), and Dinesh Narayan (Jhansi).

As per the rules, elevators and escalators cannot be installed without registration. An online application must be submitted for registration after installation and commissioning. Registration must be completed within six months for any existing elevator or escalator in the state.

Additionally, annual maintenance agencies must register online with the Director of Electrical Safety. The rules also require elevators to be equipped with automatic rescue devices to ensure the safety of people in the event of a power outage or malfunction, thereby enabling their rescue in an emergency.

Singh said the registration fees are €5,000 per elevator, both for public (shopping centers, etc.) and private (houses, apartments, etc.) elevators, with renewal every five years. Manufacturers must pay 25,000 per lift for annual renewals. Public and private elevators are also required to upload proof of annual maintenance to the portal each year. Government elevators are exempt from registration fees, but registration remains mandatory for them.

Alok Mishra, Head of Online Application Status Tracking, highlighted the unique feature of the portal whereby approvals are generated automatically once candidates upload the required documents and pay the prescribed fees, eliminating any manual intervention.
