Apple is set to acquire Pixelmator, a well-known image editing company based in Lithuania. As reported by The Verge, Pixelmator shared the news in a blog post, expressing their excitement for this acquisition, which will allow them to reach a wider audience and improve their impact on the global creative community.

The company also clarified that there would be no immediate “material changes” to its existing apps, including Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator. The deal is still awaiting regulatory approval. However, no further details about this new deal have been shared online. .

“We have been influenced by Apple since day one, designing our products with the same careful attention to design, simplicity and performance,” Pixelmator said.

The company’s popular Pixelmator Pro and Photomator apps have long been part of the Apple ecosystem. Over time, apps have introduced a variety of advanced AI and machine learning features, such as background removal tools and super resolution.

The acquisition comes as Apple steps up its focus on AI-powered photography tools, following the recent release of its iOS “Clean Up” feature, which competes with Google’s Magic Eraser feature. Apple’s AI push will require more push on add-on features, and having Pixelmator under its product umbrella will go a long way toward getting more people to spend money on AI and its effective tools that are already popular among users.

Founded in 2007 in Vilnius, Lithuania, Pixelmator has become a popular, inexpensive alternative to Adobe’s offerings, providing powerful image editing tools for a one-time purchase instead of a subscription model. The Pro edition is currently priced at $49.99 (Rs 4,203 approx).

As of now, Apple has not released an official statement regarding the acquisition, as the tech giant typically refrains from publicly discussing such deals. Apple’s previous acquisitions include weather app Dark Sky in 2020 and automation app Workflow in 2017.
