2024 Election in Regina: A look at the important issues, according to voters

A recent poll conducted by CTV News in partnership with Insightrix Research examines the issues most important to potential voters in Saskatchewan’s capital ahead of the Nov. 13 municipal election.

As election day draws ever closer, 400 residents of Regina and Saskatoon were surveyed to determine which issues matter most to them civically.

Respondents were asked: “Which of the following questions have the most impact on your vote?” » and were given the opportunity to choose up to three choices from the list.

For 42 per cent of respondents in Regina, property taxes and/or user fees were a major concern.

Efficient municipal/fiscal management follows closely, with a rate of 40 percent.

Other management issues of significant importance included resolving REAL issues (16 percent), envisioning the future and planning for growth (14 percent), and engagement and transparency with residents (8 percent).

“It seems like in Regina it’s more of a ‘back to basics,’ as far as taxes and what’s happening in the city and how it’s run,” Lang said McGilp, Insightrix research director, to CTV News. .

In terms of social issues, general concerns about crime in the city occupied the minds of 32 percent of those surveyed.

Other issues included affordable housing (22 percent), homelessness and shelters (20 percent), mental health and addictions (14 percent), crime in my neighborhood (six percent), and maintaining order (five percent)..

Service issues came third among those surveyed. Topping the category were concerns about infrastructure and road maintenance, at 26 percent. This is followed by improving municipal services (16 percent), garbage collection and utilities (eight percent), traffic and parking issues (six percent), and finally public transportation (five percent). ).

Social issues at the forefront in Saskatoon

The results were similar to those in Saskatoon – with a few key differences.

Social issues were the main concern of Saskatoon voters.

The issue of homelessness and shelters in the Bridge City remains a priority, with 47 percent of likely voters citing it as their top concern.

It’s closely followed by citywide crime, at 38 percent. Mental health and addictions and affordable housing stood at 25 and 24 percent, respectively.

In the management issues category, property taxes and user fees remained in the lead at 27 percent, while effective municipal and tax management came in at 23 percent.

The online survey was conducted Nov. 1-3 with a sample drawn from the Insightrix SaskWatch Research Panel, an online survey group.

Since panel participants self-select, it is considered a non-probability proportional sample. Regardless, Insightrix estimates a margin of error of plus or minus five percentage points 19 times out of 20.

Data is weighted by education and income to match the 2021 Canadian census.

Voters across the province will go to the polls on November 13 to elect their municipal representatives.
