Eminent educationist Dinanath Batra dies at 84

Dinanath Batra, an eminent educationist and teacher, died at the age of 84 in Delhi on Thursday. Batra was the national convener of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti and the founder president of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas.

Batra’s body will be placed on public display at the central office of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas at Naraina Vihar in Delhi from 8 am to 10 am on Friday.

Born on March 5, 1930 in Rajanpur district of Dera Ghazi Khan (Pakistan) in undivided India, Batra began his teaching career at DAV School in Dera Bassi in Punjab in 1955. He served as principal at Kurukshetra from 1965 to 1990.

He served as the President of All India Hindustan Scouts and Guides. He was also the general secretary of Vidya Bharati All India Educational Institution.

Batra received the President’s Award and received other honors for his work on education, including the Swami Krishnananda Saraswati Samman, the Swami Akhandananda Saraswati Samman and the Bhaurao Deoras Samman.

The educationist has been tireless in his determination to make Indianness in education a national movement and this has played a crucial role in shaping the National Education Policy 2020. The NEP 2020 focuses on promoting India-centric educational values.
