Calgary weather: Nighttime temperatures in Calgary 20 degrees warmer than average

A ridge of high pressure located over British Columbia and extending north to the Yukon is currently the dominant weather driver for southern Alberta.

A strong westerly current pushed nighttime temperatures in Calgary to 13°C, 20 degrees warmer than the average nighttime low of -7°C.

Thursday will remain breezy in the region, with sustained winds in Calgary expected to blow around 20 km/h for most of the day, with gusts around 40 km/h.

The temperature should drop slightly at the start of the day, then return to at least 13°C in the afternoon with sunshine over southern Alberta.

Typical of Chinook-like conditions, winds will be even stronger in the southwest corner of the province with sustained winds of 50 km/h and gusts closer to 70 km/h, which would not trigger any wind warnings of Environment and Climate Change Canada. .

Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be even warmer Friday before returning to just above seasonable temperatures Saturday and Sunday.

Nighttime lows in Calgary will range between -3°C and 0°C over the next seven days.
