Cadillac residents gather to learn about PFAS contamination at City Hall

WEXFORD COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — Cadillac residents were invited to learn more about PFAS contamination Wednesday evening at a community meeting.

The Michigan Department of Great Lakes Environment and Energy organized the event with the Environmental Protection Agency and city officials.

Cadillac’s city manager said the public meeting was planned so the community could learn more about the investigation into PFAS contamination near the city’s industrial park.

The meeting began with an open house before a presentation and question and answer session.

The goal was for people to learn more about what PFAS is, its effects and how to stay informed about the chemicals.

“It’s really important that people get as much information as possible,” said Abigail Hendershott, Michigan PFAS Action and Response Team. “Ultimately, we want people to have this information so they can make informed decisions about their drinking water, their health, and their property.”

The city said sampling for PFAS in groundwater monitoring wells in the industrial area would likely take place this spring.
