The role of Helicobacter in the prevention of gastric cancer

Gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer worldwide and the absolute global burden of this disease is expected to increase without effective screening measures. Support for such strategies has been echoed by a number of international organizations, particularly in regions with intermediate to high risk. One of these approaches is to identify and eradicate Helicobacter pylori early.

We invite researchers to submit articles examining the role of Helicobacter pylori in the pathogenesis of gastric cancer, including the influence of the interaction between host, bacterial, and environmental virulence factors on the carcinogenic cascade. We also invite articles on secondary and opportunistic screening strategies.

Our objective is to explore the willingness of governments and policy makers to support initiatives aimed at the prevention and screening of gastric cancer. Public awareness is an essential element of the success of screening programs. We invite articles that assess the general population’s current level of knowledge about gastric cancer and Helicobacter pylori. Additionally, we welcome contributions that explore factors to consider in implementing a screening program, such as potential barriers to adoption, ways to optimize adherence, and how to improve treatment effectiveness at the population level.

We look forward to your feedback and will advance the conversation about gastric cancer prevention and screening.
