Boutique allowing students to explore the energy sector, careers now open in Saint-Paul

The store allows students to explore and learn about careers in the energy field.

A new experiential learning and career exploration resource for students is now available in the Twin Cities.

Junior Achievement North in St. Paul aims to provide students with real-world experience managing and operating different types of businesses.

Thursday was the official opening of the CenterPoint Energy store after a year of work to get it up and running. Students participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony before clocking in as employees, donning hard hats and reflective vests while learning about the energy sector and safety, such as the pipeline and the importance of calling call 811 before digging.

“There is so much that can be done to provide communities with safe, reliable and affordable energy, and we just want to highlight all of the opportunities that exist for students here,” said Joshua Solis, principal communications specialist for Center Point Energy Minnesota.

“I think it’s pretty cool how they have all kinds of real businesses, things that we can all love and do and stuff,” said Charlie Teneyck, a fifth grader attending the ceremony.

CenterPoint Energy also donated $150,000 to Junior Achievement North.
