Christmas at Streetsville Village brings holiday charm and family fun to Mississauga

It’s that wonderful time of year again, and a ton of fun Christmas events will soon be happening in Mississauga’s historic Streetsville neighborhood.

On Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23, the city’s quaint village will look like something straight out of a Hallmark movie. All residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the traditional tree lighting ceremony, listen to live music, eat maple taffy, take a photo with Santa and participate in various family activities , including the Polar Express train and horse-drawn carriage rides. .

Not only is Christmas in the Village a completely free event, but shoppers who purchase from participating Streetsville businesses from November 22 to December 24 can use their receipt(s) to participate in the Shop La ‘Ville contest for a chance to win one of 3 grand prizes, including the grand prize of a $500 Streetsville gift card and an overnight stay at the Hilton Mississauga with breakfast for two!

Vacation fun unfolds at The Village Square and along Queen Street South in Streetsville, a historic, walkable neighborhood that’s full of small-town charm.

Here are 10 fun and festive things to experience during the event weekend:

1. Stop by the Hello Local Christmas Market, a huge holiday market with more than 30 local vendors selling everything from homemade foods and baked goods to holiday-themed souvenirs. Open Fridays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the market is the perfect place to find gifts for everyone on your Christmas shopping list.

2. Participate in the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 22 at 7 p.m., an annual Streetsville tradition and a perfect photo opportunity!

3. Meet and take photos with Santa himself on Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Santa will be taking a break to have dinner with Mrs. Claus, so be sure to check his schedule. online).

4. Take a break with some live musical performances on the Village Square Stage. Here’s what’s happening this year:

  • Friday, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.: River North, a popular local acoustic folk music duo
  • Saturday, 10:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.: Saint Rose of Lima children’s choir
  • Saturday, 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Kalia, a talented 9-year-old singer
  • Saturday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Mo Guzman, Toronto artist known for his soulful performances ranging from acoustic, alternative and classical rock to hip hop, blues and R&B
  • Saturday, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.: Kendra Gabrielle, local artist performing holiday hits with her band

5. Enjoy a delicious maple-flavored taffy, presented by Branch 139 of the Royal Canadian Legion.

6. Skate on a synthetic outdoor rink. (Bring your own skates and safety equipment; free rentals will also be available.)

7. Feel nostalgic and experience the joy of a carousel ride.

8. Take a fun horse-drawn carriage ride around Streetsville, presented by the Streetsville Lions and the Rotary Club of Mississauga, in partnership with Rama Gaming.

9. Take part in a game of ball hockey, learn to curl or shoot on goal with activities offered by the Vic Johnston Community Center and Arena.

10. Decorate the ornaments, write a letter to Santa and get creative with crafts and festive activities for kids provided by sponsors.

Residents should be aware of road closures over the weekend, including Main Street on both days and Queen Street South from Thomas Street to Tannery Street on Saturday, November 23.
