Strong Santa Ana winds will calm over the weekend, sunshine remains

Hello Central Coast!

Winds are making headlines this morning, causing problems across the West Coast and especially in the mountains of Ventura County.

This event is driven by strong winds in Santa Ana and has triggered numerous alerts and adds to fire concerns. Here is an overview of the concerns associated with winds.

These winds will continue to be a concern until Friday. At this point the winds will calm down considerably.

Even though our winds were gusty, we are right on the edge of this concern and only seeing winds up to 30 mph. Pass tops and canyons will experience higher gusts, but none will exceed advisory level criteria.

Winds this morning will keep many valleys in a milder direction (mid 30s), although where winds are calm some sheltered areas will experience much cooler temperatures. This triggered a frost warning for inland valleys until 9am.

Now is a good time to bring sensitive plants indoors if you haven’t already.

During the day, the sky will be perfectly clear and temperatures will warm up quickly. Light offshore winds and very dry air will bring highs back into the 70s for most communities with 60s at the beach.

Friday through the weekend, winds will calm and a slight warming trend will take over. Temperatures in the mid 70s (just above normal) are expected for the weekend with some resurgence of morning fog at the beach. Overnight lows will fall below freezing again in the interior valleys.

Early next week, we will see a few weak storms pass to our north. The former will bring cooler air, onshore winds and a minimal chance of rain, which will be barely noticeable.

Here is an overview of the 7-day forecast!

Have a nice Central Coast day!
