2024 election in Regina: here are the candidates for Ward 7

With a voting population of 19,969, Ward 7 is located on the northern edge of the city and is the second smallest in area after Ward 3.

Ward 7 is made up of the Argyle Park/Englewood, Coronation Park, Northeast and Uplands Community Associations and Public School Board Subdivisions Four and Six.

It is one of four wards whose outgoing councilors are seeking re-election to Council. Terina Nelson is running for a second term as mayor.

Terina Nelson

On her candidacy page, Nelson states that during her time on the City Council, she has been a strong voice for fiscal responsibility, public safety, community development and business growth.

She says her priorities are ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely and promoting initiatives to improve parks, infrastructure and public services.

Nelson is facing three other candidates looking to fill the spot.

Abdi Gure

Gure holds a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in education and public administration and believes he has the experience and expertise to address Regina’s complex social and economic agenda.

On his application page, Gure says the city needs to attract business and sustainable economic development.

He believes that Regina has experienced substantial population growth over the past ten years, which has brought many social challenges while creating economic opportunities.

“If elected, my priorities will be improving our aging infrastructure, supporting small businesses, promoting affordable housing and improving public safety,” Gure said.

John Gross

Gross, who has been a businessman in Regina for more than 30 years, says he is building a multi-million dollar organization.

On his application page, Gross says he recently turned his holding company over to a property management company so he could fully focus on working for the residents of Ward 7.

He says if elected, he promises to fight for Ward 7, including against property tax increases.

Radons Shobna

Radons has been a postal worker for 25 years and a military veteran with 20 years of service.

On her application page, she says her parents instilled in her the values of hard work and community.

She is president of the Regina and District Labor Council and says she has developed skills to work with others and find solutions that benefit everyone.

“I am committed to standing up for those who are struggling and making our city more inclusive and safer for all residents,” she says on her page.
