Sudbury Performance Group to host Fiesta Latina celebration on November 16

Sudbury Performance Group has invited the community to celebrate Latin heritage with Fiesta Latina, which will be held at the Ukrainian National Federation Hall, 130 Frood Road. in Sudbury, November 16.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and performances run from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

“This dynamic cultural celebration will feature live music, traditional Latin dancing and authentic cuisine, showcasing the beauty and spirit of Latin culture,” SPG said in a press release.

Tickets are $15 and are available at sudburyperformance.ca.

Fiesta Latina brings together a range of Latino artists, each with a unique background and a passion for sharing their heritage, including:

– Jheymy Chavarro: A Colombian dancer since the age of eight, Chavarro has mastered folk dance, salsa, merengue, tango and more. A dedicated teacher, she inspires Sudbury’s Latin dance scene through her work with organizations such as the YMCA, Sudbury High School and SPG, embodying her motto, Dance is Happiness.

– Pierina Aliaga: Originally from Chile, Aliaga’s passion for dance began with urban styles before becoming a Zumba instructor. As a member of the Blanca and Claudio team, she actively promotes Latin culture through music and dance, focusing on the physical and mental well-being that dance provides.

– Blanca: A Chilean Spanish teacher who arrived in Sudbury in 2021, Blanca has performed in productions like Cabaret and Jesus Christ Superstar and dances with Pachamama Folkloric Dance, preserving her cultural heritage. In 2023, the City of Greater Sudbury awarded his family the Greater Together Award for their contribution to local arts.

– Jorge Martinez: Colombian percussionist, Martinez’s talent spans salsa, gospel, jazz and blues. He co-founded a local musical group with another Colombian and a Chilean, creating a Latin music sensation warmly received by the community.

– Jorge Camaleon: Formerly of Sabor 19 in Montreal, Camaleon is a versatile percussionist, specializing in Latin instruments such as the bongo and the guiro. Now living in Sudbury, he performs with Claudio’s Latin Music Project, energizing audiences at events like RibFest and Canada Day.

– Claudio Peralta: A Chilean industrial engineer, Peralta has immersed himself in the arts in Sudbury since his arrival in 2021. Known for his roles in RENT, ABBA Gold and Jesus Christ Superstar, he also received the Greater Together Award for his contribution. to the artistic community.

– Dominica Frometa: An international singer known for her vibrant performances, Dominica has entertained audiences in Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the United States. Her powerful voice brings authentic Latin flavor to every performance.

– DJ Fran Moreno: Originally from Ecuador, Moreno began his career as a DJ in the dance clubs of Quito, earning a reputation for his crowd-pleasing performances. Now based in Sudbury, he is excited to share his passion for Latin music with the community.

– Isa and Dani: This duo is made up of Isabel, lover of Latin American pop and rock, and her husband Daniel, a professional Colombian musician. Together, they bring to life the music they grew up with, performing at major events like the Northern Latin Congress and the Her Northern Voice Festival.

“Sudbury is a city of vibrant cultures and histories and we are excited to celebrate the contributions of the Latin community with Fiesta Latina,” said SPG President Mark Mannisto. “This event is not only an opportunity for people to come together and enjoy the richness of Latin culture, but also a reminder of how diversity enriches our city.”
