1 person arrested, 2 others wanted following violent protest at Hindu temple in Brampton

Peel Region police have arrested one man and issued arrest warrants for two others after violence broke out at a Hindu temple in Brampton earlier this week.

Police were called to a large protest outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir on The Gore Road on Monday evening. Investigators said the protest was “declared illegal” after weapons were seen in the crowd and the law enforcement public order unit was deployed to disperse the demonstrators.

Following the protest, police began investigating several offenses, including one that showed a man using a loudspeaker and calling for groups to storm Sikh temples.

Police arrested Ranendra Lal Banerjee, 57, of Toronto, and charged him with public incitement to hatred.

Investigators also issued arrest warrants for Armaan Gahlot, 24, of Kitchener, and Arpit, 22 (no last name), no fixed address, for uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, conspiracy to commit to commit armed assault, and conspiracy to commit misdeeds.

The police encourage them to seek legal advice and go to the police.

The demonstration took place after violent demonstrations on Sunday in front of the same temple has spread to two other locations in Mississauga.
