New baseball stadium in Spruce Grove, Alberta takes shape

Construction of a new baseball field is underway in the Edmonton area.

Crews erected steel structure for Spruce Grove building Myshak Metro Baseball Stadium on Pioneer Road, just north of Highway 16A, 10 kilometers west of the Edmonton city limits.

After years of delays, work on the site began a year ago and is expected to be completed by early June 2025, said Patrick Cassidy, managing partner of the former Edmonton Prospects baseball club, which plans to change locations. name next season in the Western Canada Baseball League.

“Our new slogan will be ‘New stadium, new team name, new era of baseball,’ and we’re kind of envisioning it being one of the top five baseball stadiums in Canada,” said Cassidy, who runs the operation. “He has that kind of potential.”

The team will soon hold a naming contest and plans to unveil their new brand early next year.

The club says that in addition to baseball, the new ballpark could be used for concerts and outdoor skating.

Myshak Metro Ballpark was originally planned to open two years ago, but construction issues delayed it.

The Prospects, who were established in 2005, played at ReMax Field in downtown Edmonton from 2012 to 2020. They used Centennial Park in Sherwood Park as their home park since 2021, with the exception of the season 2023, from which the team took a leave of absence to focus on the construction of the new ballpark.
