Supreme Court to examine whistleblower tapes against CM N Biren Singh

A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and the judges JB Pardiwala And Manoj Misra also sought details of the source of the tape and material to prove its authenticity from the petitioner – Kuki Organization for Human Rights Trust.

“We grant the petitioner the opportunity to file documents indicating the authenticity of the clip. Counsel says the clip must also be submitted,” noted the Court.

It was after the lawyer Prashant Bhushanrepresenting the petitioner, said the whistleblower had recorded a conversation of the Chief Minister in which he admitted that “he fueled the insurgency and protected those who looted the weapons”.

“He allowed the looting of weapons and ammunition. How can the state investigate this matter?” » asked Bhushan.

How authentic are these tapes?

“It was submitted to the Lamba commission. This court is dealing with the Manipur case. This is not an ordinary case,” he said.

Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehtarepresenting the central government, vehemently opposed the request and said the petitioner’s intention was to “keep the fire burning”.

“Investigation is ongoing. CM met all Kuki MPs to ensure peace and whistleblowers don’t want peace. The intention is to keep the fire burning,” he argued.

He said the petitioners should approach the High Court

“My suggestion is not to undermine the majesty of the High Court. Let them approach the High Court,” he added. » submitted the SG.
