Man Utd news: Amad Diallo wants to extend his stay at Old Trafford

Manchester United’s Europa League match winner Amad Diallo wants to extend his stay at the club. His current contract expires this summer, although United have the option to extend this contract for another year.

The Ivorian said this summer his aim was to stay at Old Trafford and nothing has clearly changed after his brace against Greek champions PAOK gave United their first Europa League victory this season and his first victory in continental competition for 12 months.

“I’m happy to be here, happy to play for this club and yes, I want to stay here for a long time and make history here,” Amad said.

Talks have been held over an extension in the hope that Amad will sign a new deal which will run until 2027.

His efforts were indispensable against PAOK and turned what caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy described as a disappointing first-half performance into a match-winning second-half performance.

For Amad, it was the perfect way to respond to a frustrating month where he failed to start a match.

“I always do my best, even when I’m not a starter,” he said. “Everyone wants to play but I’m just trying to stay focused. I was (United’s) player of the month in August, but now I’ve moved on and I’m focused on the future.”

The imminent arrival of Ruben Amorim from Sporting offers Amad another chance to impress, although United’s new head coach does not tend to bring in orthodox players.

Amad is not the only one who does not know what role Amorim will ask of him. But he’s looking forward to the challenge.

“I’m excited to have him on this team and look forward to working with him,” he said.
