IPL 2025 mega auction: Veteran James Anderson wants to develop his ‘knowledge of the game’

England great James Anderson says he has signed up for the upcoming IPL mega auction to improve his knowledge about the game, after finishing his international career as the most successful Test fast bowler in cricket earlier this year.

In a surprising move, 42-year-old Anderson, who last played a T20 match in 2014 and has never played a single Indian Premier League match, has registered himself for the auction which will be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, at a base price of Rs 1.25 crore.

Anderson retired from Test cricket after 188 matches for England earlier this year, taking 704 wickets to finish as the third highest wicket-taker of all time, behind Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australian spin wizard Shane Warne (708).

“There’s definitely something in me that thinks I can still play. I’ve never done the IPL; I’ve never experienced it and I think for a number of reasons I I feel like I have more to give as a player,” Anderson said. told BBC Radio 4 Today in a podcast.

Anderson said that while playing in the biggest T20 league in the world, he not only wanted to continue learning as a bowler, but also wanted to gain more experience and knowledge as a coach.

“I’ve done a bit of coaching since I finished in the summer. I’ve been part of the England team doing a bit of mentoring or whatever you want to call it,” he said. -he declared.

“I just think opening my eyes to something like that and experiencing it could kind of help me expand my knowledge of the game and help me later,” Anderson added.

Anderson, known as the ‘Burnley Express’, last played a T20 match for his Lancashire county in August 2014, while his last appearance in the format for England came in November 2009.
