Russell Penn expresses joy as Halesowen Town aim for fourth straight win

It was Halesowen’s third consecutive league victory to see them level on points with Kettering Town at the top of the table.

Hosting AFC Sudbury tomorrow, boss Russell Penn wants to see his side continue their goalscoring momentum.

When asked how happy he was with the win midweek, Penn replied: “I’m over the moon.

“It’s always a tricky game because it’s so far away. We were excellent from start to finish and thoroughly deserved the five goals we scored. I’m disappointed we didn’t get more to be honest

“It was tiring. I think all the players and staff got a few hours of sleep.

I got home at 3:45am and was straight to work that morning.

“But we have to recover for another big game.

“I know how important momentum is in football. But we are not only getting results, we have played very well in the last three games.

“We are scoring goals now which is great and we have found our formula that works for us.

But it’s another tough challenge on Saturday.

Penn will face his former side Kidderminster Harriers on November 16 when Halesowen travel to Aggborough in the second round of the FA Trophy.

The Yeltz boss will use his attacking options in fine form after Kieren Donnelly scored a hat-trick in the convincing win over Lowestoft.

Penn believes facing new and unknown teams in the Southern Central Premier is an advantage for him and hopes to continue to put pressure on those around him.

“That’s all we can focus on,” Penn said. “We have a lot of home advantage in November.

“We look forward to getting back to the comfort of trying to win on our home turf over the coming weeks.”

“I don’t know much about the teams at this level, which is good for me because I don’t disrespect anyone.

“I think anyone who shows up at the Grove when we have a good crowd gives that extra ten percent and we have to be prepared to do that.”

League rivals Stourbridge, who are just three points behind Yeltz in eighth, look to secure their first win in two when they host Halesowen’s midweek opponents Lowestoft.

After seeing Yeltz beat the East Suffolk side five times, boss Liam McDonald hopes his Glassboys go on and do the same as they target the play-off places which are just one point away.

In the National League North, basement boys Rushall Olympic host relegation-threatened Radcliffe as they sit five points from safety.

Adam Stevens’ side continued their FA Cup heartbreak from last weekend with a 1-1 draw at Needham Market on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Kidderminster Harriers are aiming for top spot after a slim 1-0 win over fellow play-off hopefuls Curzon Ashton on Wednesday. Phil Brown’s side host Farley Celtic tomorrow.
