Music and film festival returns to Surrey this weekend

A three-day festival celebrating film, music and sound creation is set to return to Surrey this weekend.

KinoSonic will take place at Farnham Maltings Creative Arts Center from Friday to Sunday.

Presented in partnership with the University of the Creative Arts (UCA), it aims to foster creativity through a diverse program of performances, screenings, workshops and networking events.

“Whether you are a film buff, a music lover or simply curious to explore new artistic frontiers, there is something for everyone,” said Peter Glanville, CEO of Farnham Maltings.

KinoSonic 2024 highlights include the Minima Quartet performing live music from Alfred Hitchock’s classic 1927 silent film The Lodger, discussions with acclaimed filmmakers Robert Morgan and Peter Strickland, and an exclusive Q&A with the musician and filmmaker Natasha Khan, known as Bat for Lashes, following the screening of her film The Dream of Delphi – A New Transmission.

The BBC Big Band will also present a concert of iconic film scores from 80 years of cinema, as well as a BFI Network showcase of short films and immersive audio-visual installations from Dr William Bishop-Stephens and Sea of Cables from the ‘UCA.

There will also be workshops on topics such as Foley sound effects, film scoring and experimental music creation.
