Here’s what’s happening this weekend in Edmonton

The Memorial Day long weekend is fast approaching, but remnants of a recently passed holiday still linger in the capital.

With what could be one of the last warm weekends in Edmonton before the white stuff stays for good, it’s time to pack your calendars and start planning your well-deserved weekend in Edmonton.

Here’s what’s happening this weekend in Edmonton:

Poppies and lights

City of Edmonton Remembrance Day Ceremony 2024

The city will commemorate the achievements and sacrifices of those who have served our country during a Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday. The commanding officer of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment will lead the ceremony followed by an outdoor procession to the cenotaph at City Hall, where several wreaths will be on display.

Once capacity is reached, City Hall will direct guests to Sir Winston Churchill Square where a live broadcast of the event will be broadcast.

When: November 11 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., places start at 9:15 a.m.

Maisie’s Magical Christmas House

Maisie’s Magical Christmas House opened on November 4, 2024 and will run until the New Year. (Courtesy of Google)The sights and sounds of Christmas are on display at a north Edmonton home.

Maisie’s House Lighting tradition began in 2004 with a humble display and has grown each year since to the amazing display it is today.

Although the event itself is free, guests are encouraged to bring donations to the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS).

Special guests expected at the event include The Grinch, Santa Claus and adoptable dogs from SCARS.

When: November 4 to January 5, 2025, from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

What’s left of Halloween

The 11th season of Deadmonton is coming to an end, but not without reserving a few scares for the bravest.

The haunted experience includes two indoor and one outdoor attractions: the Curse of the Mucklebone Coven, the Abbey and the Puppet Factory.

This spooky event is intended for children at least 12 years old, so be careful who you bring into the haunted house. Tickets for the event are available via the link.

Paranormal tours

A three-hour guided paranormal tour in Fort Edmonton Park will get your blood pumping as you search for the unexpected and conduct your own paranormal investigations.

Guests will be provided with ghost hunting tools as they learn more about the haunts that occur in Edmonton after dark. Refer to website for any event-related notices or to purchase tickets. Not recommended for under 14s.

Animal fun

Edmonton Humane Society Fall Camp

The Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) is hosting a camp for animal lovers.

Fall Kids Camps are an animal-themed educational workshop where children can learn about animal care, animal welfare, and how to become responsible pet parents. EHS has many offerings for camp, including games, hands-on experiences and new friendships – human and four-legged.

The camp is offered in two age groups, one for 6 to 9 years old and the other for children 9 to 12 years old.

Frogs and friends at the Muttart Conservatory

Muttart Conservatory’s final feature pyramid is filled with amphibians, but don’t worry, it’s not a pest problem.

The Frogs and Friends feature is a journey into the lives of, you guessed it, frogs. The featured attraction challenges visitors to confront their fears and open themselves to a colorful and diverse world of bug-eyed hop croakers.

Music and comedy

Concert by the Boréalis Orchestra

Classical music is in the air with the Borealis Orchestra taking the stage this weekend for a concert for all ages.

The ensemble will perform classic pieces including Saint Saens, Wagner, Greig and more.

Orchestra tickets are available for purchase online or at the doors.

Drag me to the comic

The comic is hosting its first all-drag comedy show on November 11, 2024. (Courtesy: Pup Art/Instagram)A special evening of drag performances heads to the BD for an evening of laughter and pride.

For the first time, the comedy club is hosting Drag Me to the Comic Strip with seven Edmonton drag queens performing their raunchiest stand-up routine for the masses.

The 18+ event will be hosted by Pup Art with performances from Mars Dawn, Céline Dejion, Onika Xtravaganza, Chelsea Horrendous and God.

Steph Tolev: The Filth Queen Canadian Tour

Canadian comedian Stephanie Tolev comes to Edmonton for a golden evening of comedy.

Tolev made a name for herself after appearing on Bill Burr’s Netflix special Friends Who Kill and was featured on Comedy Central’s stand-up series The Ringer. She was also named “Comedians You All Should Know” by Vulture magazine.
