Volunteers give back to veterans through Lowe’s Hometowns program

BOLIVIA, NC (WECT) – Lowe’s Home Improvement is partnering with Willett’s Horse Farm in Brunswick County to give back to veterans suffering from PTSD.

This is part of Lowe’s Hometowns program, where they fund projects in communities across the country.

Volunteers from Lowe’s in Southport traveled to Willett’s in Bolivia to build fire pits, landscape and install a 30-foot flagpole to display the American flag.

The farm is home to At Liberty Connections, a retreat for veterans who suffer from anxiety, depression and PTSD after serving in the armed forces.

Brunswick County is home to about 18,000 veterans, and Randy Modlin, manager of Lowe’s in Southport, said many of those veterans often have invisible injuries.

Modlin is a veteran himself. He said the job is about paying it forward and helping those who have bravely served our country.

“Every year I try to do something, hopefully, centered around a veterans facility. I understand the whole thing about the home, the fellowship around the home, you know, the camaraderie. You share their stories in their past, and that may help some of their issues or issues that they have. That’s really why we wanted to come here and do this,” Modlin said.
