The Phillies could make major changes to their outfield via trade and free agency

THE Philadelphia Phillies desperately need to make changes to their roster after another disappointing finish to the playoffs in which the offense failed badly.

For much of the regular season, the Phillies were one of the best teams in all of baseball and finished with their best record since 2011 and their first NL East title since that year.

But despite participating in the World Series in 2022 and returning to the NLDS the following season, Philadelphia was eliminated in four games by the New York Mets in what cannot be described as anything other than domination.

On the way to this winter, Dave Dombrowski knows he simply can’t do nothing when it comes to revamping the offense, but with established and critical pieces throughout the infield, it appears the outfield is the most likely spot where major changes could occur.

Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors wrote an article detailing the buzz surrounding what moves this team feels ready to make and where they’re digging, naming Brandon Marais And Johan Rojas specifically as players who could be traded or have their playing time reduced in favor of an outside addition.

“…The Phils are unlikely to simply return with the same roster in 2024 after another shorter-than-expected season,” he wrote. “Marsh and Rojas could form a platoon, as Marsh bats left-handed to the right-handed bat of the more defensively gifted Rojas. That would open the door for an incoming outfielder, but Dombrowski’s repeated chorus of “open-minded” approaches revamping his offense has sparked natural trade speculation.

Of course, when it comes to reshaping the offense and wanting to add an outfielder, the first name fans will think of is a prized free agent. Juan Soto.

At this point, it doesn’t feel It’s incredibly likely that the Phillies will be a top player for Soto, as this appears to be a New York Yankees and the Mets run, but never say never.

Even if Philadelphia doesn’t land Soto, keep a very close eye on them taking a punt on other top available outfielders in what is a talent-rich market.
