No. 3 Deer River football fell in the quarterfinals of the Class A state tournament to undefeated No. 2 Mahnomen/Waubun 14-6 at Becker High School on Friday.

In the first quarter, Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbird’s Easton Bevins scored first and with a two-point conversion they led 8-0. In the second, Caiden Schjenkin of Moose Lake/Willow River returned the favor to lead 8-6. In the fourth quarter, the Thunderbirds increased their lead thanks to a Blake Mcmullen touchdown.

Mahnomen/Waubun wins 14-6. Deer River finishes its season with a 9-2 record.

In the Class AA quarterfinals, No. 4 Moose Lake/Willow River fell to undefeated No. 1 Kimball 38-0 at Brainerd High School. The Rebels finish their season with a 9-3 record.
