She was furious at the Six’s actions and the fact that Linda had not yet been brought to justice.

In the wake of his departure, a lot has changed for The Six, with Nish Panesar taking over.

But with Bernie now back in Walford, she won’t leave the Six alone in peace as she delivers what she thinks.

In upcoming scenes, Elaine is relieved to see Linda sober and focused on her recovery, but her positivity is destroyed by Bernie, who has just returned.

As Linda tries to explain her failed confession, Bernie is furious that Nish is being accused and warns that neither of them will ever move on.

Later, Bernie turns his attention to Suki as the battle rages on.

As she tries to talk with Suki, Nish’s ex offers a different approach to try to calm her down.

Later in the week, Bernie goes to speak with the member of the Six she was also closest to – her former boss Kathy.

Kathy asks Bernie for forgiveness and apologizes for her role in the murder and its cover-up.

But will Bernie ever be able to truly forget the actions of others?

The darkest soap plots

Over the years, the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to outdo each other with their wacky plots in a bid to keep us tuning in every week. But here are some of the darker ones that shocked fans…

  • EastEnders: Tony treats Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as Bianca’s boyfriend, played by Patty Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a pedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking story sparked more than 200 complaints in the week after it broke. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police.
  • Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010–2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking story saw her take cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help their daughter get clean, but when Holly returned in 2016, after four years away, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed following a heroin overdose.
  • Hollyoaks: The Rape of Luke (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he embarked on this groundbreaking story, in which his character, Luke Morgan, became the first male rape victim on the show. Luke had suffered a long campaign of bullying from his football rival, Mark Gibbs, who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke became suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won Best Actor at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance.
  • Coronation Street: evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – The mere mention of “Richard Hillman” is enough to send shivers down the spines of soap opera fans. It is often classified among the the most evil soap villains and it’s not difficult to understand why. The smooth-talking financial advisor hit his ex-wife Patricia in the head with a shovel. In an attempt to silence his mother-in-law Audrey, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he put a crowbar to her head. He left the streets in 2003 by driving Gail Plattplayed by Helen Worth, and her family in the canal. They survived, but not him.
