Ultras and Spin Doctors battle for solo leadership

The Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference is heating up and Sunday’s showdown between undefeated DN Steel FEU and Saviuge at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig promises to be a matchup not to be missed.

Both teams are on a hot streak, with the Ultras aiming to extend their perfect streak to six games to continue to control the lead, while the Spin Doctors look to claim first place with their fifth straight victory.

The Ultras come into this match off the back of a hard-fought four-set victory over the winless Martelli Meats Master Blasters last Friday, with FEU coach Eddieson Orcullo outlining a clear strategy: a focused serve to disrupt Saviuge’s combination games and a targeted reception to counter the Ultras’ powerful attacks.

Drxy Saavedra and Mikko Espartero are expected to lead the charge for the Ultras, while John Diwa and Louis Gamban will be the mainstay of Savigé’s offense.

In the other matches, the EcoOil La Salle Green Oilers, undefeated (3-0), face the PGJC-Navy Sealions at 4 p.m. The Navy team, reeling from a straight-set loss to the Criss Cross King Crunchers last Friday, is hoping to bounce back. and end La Salle’s unbeaten streak.

Noel Kamton and MJ Fortuna will look to replicate their stellar performances in La Salle’s last win, while Joeven Dela Vega and Greg Dolor will aim to get Navy back on track.

The 18-hour clash between Cignal and the Iloilo D’Navigators sees the HD Spikers aiming for their third straight victory after a five-set loss to the Spin Doctors, with JM Ronquillo and Mark Calado expected to lead their charge.

Meanwhile, the D’Navigators, led by Madz Gampong and Edward Camposano, will fight to end their four-game losing streak and improve to 1-4.
