Where do the fires burn? –NBC New York

At least five wildfires are actively burning in New Jersey Saturday morning as gusty winds, dry brush and low humidity fuel conditions for fire activity.

New York City, Connecticut, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and parts of New Jersey remain under a red flag until Saturday at 6 p.m.

The most recent wildfire in New Jersey is the “Cannonball 3 Wildfire” burning in Pompton Lakes in Passaic County. The fire is 100 acres in size and is zero percent contained, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Department.

The Cannonball 3 fire threatens 55 structures and has closed one lane of Interstate 287. No one has been evacuated.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and firefighters are expected to release more information Saturday afternoon.

Where are the fires burning in New Jersey now?

As of Saturday morning, here are some of the areas with active wildfires:

  • Englewood Cliffs, Bergen County
  • Pompton Lakes, Passaic County
  • Jackson Township, Ocean County
  • Evesham and Voorhees Townships, Burlington and Camden Counties
  • Glassboro, Gloucester County

THE National Weather Service said the relative humidity is as low as 21 percent and any fire that develops could spread and spread quickly.

Smoke Advisory for New Jersey

Fire officials said New Jersey residents can expect smoke in the air for at least several days.

Residents should exercise caution when outdoors and limit outdoor exercise in smoky areas due to decreased air quality.
