Apple Notes users around the world have logged in to report a new bug, making it appear they’ve lost all the notes they’ve taken with the app.

First spotted by MacRumorsIt is unclear what the technical cause of this potentially stressful new issue is.

However, this would appear to affect iPhone users who recently agreed to iCloud’s revised terms and conditions.

Apple has updated the iCloud terms and conditions in Septemberusers receiving a push notification on their iPhone to approve.

Many users have reported that the problem eventually goes away on its own, but if this isn’t the case for you, 9to5Mac recently posted a fix.

Users should head to their Settings app and tap their name at the top of the screen to access their Apple account settings.

Users should then tap iCloud, then Notes, then turn on “Sync this iPhone.”

9to5Mac reports that after waiting several minutes, any notes you lost should be restored.

If your iPhone already appears to be synced with iCloud, you should temporarily turn syncing off before turning it back on.

The issue does not appear to be limited to any particular iPhone model, but appears to affect phones running any version of iOS 18, 9to5Mac reports.

Apple has not released an official comment on the issue with Notes as of this writing. Additionally, no users appear to have reported permanent data loss.

Despite technical issues like these, iCloud has many useful new features coming out in 2024.

In October, Apple allowed users to change your iCloud email address for the first time with the introduction of iOS 18.1, meaning users now have a second chance to pick up unfortunate email addresses chosen long ago.

iCloud users who also use Windows PCs received many useful new features and integrations in February.

The redesigned iCloud Windows app allowed users to sync their iCloud photos to a folder on Windows, sync their Safari and iCloud bookmarks with it, as well as view iCloud contacts on Microsoft Outlook.
