“Bill, I don’t know if you know this, but the vice president of the United States is basically put in a broom closet for three and a half years,” Heilemann said.

“I know, she was more popular there,” Maher joked. “This idea that in the age of media, 107 days isn’t enough time to know someone?”

Moments later, Maher turned to his audience and asked if they didn’t know enough about Harris “after about a week to make a decision.”

“This is ridiculous!” Maher exclaimed. “We’re even more fed up with them!”

“Why do you have to make all these excuses for him?” Maher then asked. “All there was this week was people saying, ‘Oh, she ran a flawless campaign.’ How ridiculous. Or “That’s sexism.”

“I said none of that,” Heilemann replied.

“I know, but I’ve heard a lot of these things,” Maher continued. “I think America is more than willing to elect a woman. They just didn’t like the last two proposals.”

The HBO host later added, “She didn’t make a good case. She didn’t call out past things that people didn’t like. She just tried to ignore them.”
