Strictly Come Dance star Amy Downen has sent an emotional message to JLS star JB Gill after he was forced to quit the show.

The Welsh dancer, 34, joined the BBC series seven years ago, but had to miss last year’s season after being diagnosed with breast cancer And undergo a mastectomy and chemotherapy.

In another devastating blow for Amy, after returning this year, it was announced last week that she was no longer able to compete. due to foot injury.

As a result, pop star JB Gill, 37, is finishing his Strictly run with professional Lauren Oakley.

The duo danced their first number together last Saturday with an epic couple choice, before taking the stage again this weekend with a rousing samba.

JB and Lauren incredibly wowed the judges with their technique, which earned them a very impressive score of 37 points, putting them at the top of the leaderboard.

After a clip of their dance was shared on social media, original pro Amy was blunt in the comments with some lovely words of support.

“So proud!” From day one I told you the samba was going to be amazing and it was!’, praised Amy. ‘Well done! Proud!’

“I know what you have coming and these 10 are coming!” Well done!’, she added.

“Gutted, I can’t be there dancing with you but you and Loz were fabulous!” ‘

In the replies, Strictly fans also praised Amy, as lucyiles_x wrote:
‘@amy_dowden certainly thanks to you, you’ve done all the ground work there, you’re just going to continue to bring the vibe that you and JB would have, keep it up and I’m confident you’ll be flying on the track of dance where you should it will be soon.”

It comes as Amy also marks her own personal milestone this weekend, as she celebrates one year since finishing her chemotherapy treatment, which she did by thanking “those around her who are there for the good, the bad and the ugly.”

During an appearance on Lorraine a few days ago, Amy admitted that Saturday would be “tough” as it had been. I can’t wait to dance on the show to honor this anniversary.

She later posted a video to Instagram, reflecting on the past year with a touching statement.

“Since 09/11/2023, I made a promise to myself that I would always pursue life, which @nicknacklou (Nicky Newman, who posted about her experience with incurable breast cancer and died the year last) who taught me. At the time, I didn’t know what awaited me, the wait for the tests and, I guess, the hardest part yet, the long recovery from what chemo and surgery put you through,” a- she began.

“I was a ‘new’ me, but deep down I discovered I had no confidence. Even until late spring, I wasn’t sure I had the confidence to dance again. I just didn’t feel like myself. But I’m so glad I succeeded because that’s what made me truly happy again.

“Even if today, I don’t celebrate what I imagined and what I wanted. I look back on the last year and feel so proud of everything I accomplished and what I would have told a struggling Amy last December and January about what lay ahead.

She went on to write: But what’s important is that I’m alive and living my life to the fullest. I will be forever grateful to @coppafeel and @mrsgifletcher who finally got me checked and saved my life. To all the doctors and nurses who took care of me and continue to take care of me. THANKS.’

Amy said “life presents many obstacles along the way,” but she wanted to make sure they taught her and pushed her to become better, rather than bitter.

“I’m also lucky to have people around me who are there for good, for bad, and for bad. You all know who you are and I love you infinitely. I’m going to keep pushing, keep dreaming and make sure I go and seize life in every way possible!’ she concludes.

When Strictly started tonight, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman sent their love to Amy, introducing Lauren Oakley to the audience as JB’s new partner.

“Now, before we begin, our lovely Amy Dowden had to withdraw from this year’s competition due to injury, so Lauren will be stepping in and dancing with JB for the remainder of her time on the show,” Tess explained.

“Amy, everyone at Strictly is sending you so much love, and we can’t wait to see you on that dance floor again very, very soon,” Claudia added.

The beloved pro joined Strictly in 2017 and has gained huge success in the years since.

Amy had completed a CoppaFeel! go for a hike with Giovanna Fletcher before she starts checking her breasts, finding a lump a month later, the day before she goes on her honeymoon with fellow dancer Ben Jones.

She announced her diagnosis in May 2023 and since then, she has been raising awareness about breast cancer, also posting regular updates about her treatment on her social media platforms.

Before her return to Strictly, she was told there was no evidence of illness in her body, which she called her “biggest achievement yet”.

Amy, who also suffers from Crohn’s disease, also informed her followers that she wouldn’t get the official all-clear for five years and would need monthly injections as well as regular check-ups.

JB and Lauren have made it clear that Amy is still part of their Strictly partnership, having first performed together during Icons Week after Amy was forced to miss a Sunday results show when she was transported emergency to the hospital due to a health problem.

For their samba, JB told viewers he sent Amy videos of their rehearsals while she watched from home.

Strictly Come Dancing: The Results airs tomorrow at 7.20pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
