Police arrest fourth accused in pro-Khalistani attack

Canadian police have made a fourth arrest in connection with the pro-Khalistani attack on Hindu worshipers at a Brampton temple, officials said Sunday.

Peel Regional Police arrested Inderjeet Gosal (35) of Brampton and charged him with assault with a weapon, they said in a news release. He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

“One of the individuals has since been identified as Inderjeet Gosal, 35, of Brampton. On November 8, 2024, he was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Ontario court. Brampton Court at a later date,” the statement said.

On November 4, a pro-Khalistani mob staging a protest near the Hindu Sabha temple to mark the 40th anniversary of the Sikh riots stormed the temple and attacked Hindu worshipers as tensions escalated into violence.

Police said a strategic investigation team had been formed to investigate the incident and said “complex investigations” like these took time. He also specified that the individuals were arrested as they were identified and without specific orders.

“Investigators continue to analyze hundreds of videos from the incidents and are working to identify additional suspects involved in criminal activity and anticipate additional arrests,” police said.

Following the attack, a massive protest broke out outside the temple on November 4, which was declared illegal after weapons were spotted among the crowd. Ranendra Lal Banerjee, 57, of Indian origin, was arrested for inciting hatred during the protests.

Arrest warrants have also been issued for two other men, Armaan Gahlot, 24, of Kitchener, and Arpit, 22, of no fixed address. Both men were charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, conspiracy to commit armed assault and conspiracy to commit mischief.
